Hey Podcast! Today I’m going to give you a little bit of homework for the Christmas Break. I know, I know, but trust me, it’s a few simple things you can do to keep you on a coaches radar. Check one off the list and have a shortbread cookie, check another one off and have some eggnog and before you know it, you will be done and watching National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.

It’s another solo episode today, but I have some great guest lined up for the New Year that you are not going to want to miss. We have a former NCAA Ivy league hockey goalie, turned Dr., we have a former pro hockey player, now parent of a D1 baseball player and a former NCAA tennis player who is crushing it today as a fitness celebrity. But for now it’s just you and me today, so hit play and let me break down your winter break checklist.

#1 – Keep your online profile in check. And if you don’t have an online profile, this winter break would be a great time to get one started. Your profile is going to be your hub, so make sure the information on your profile page is up to date. Add a few highlights from the year so far, update your grades. Keep things fresh! On that note, I am super pumped to announce that we are planning to launch a super easy to use one-page app for student-athletes to manage their own profile. Watch for it in early 2019.

#2 – Reach out to the right college coaches – Did you put your list together? If you haven’t, well there is no better time to take a break from Netflix over the holidays, and start researching schools, rosters, stats and find the best schools that might fit for you. Maybe you have already started a list and you have emailed your intro messages to coaches, this Winter Break might be a good time to follow up with a Christmas message and an update on your year so far. Maybe create another list of schools and send out a message to those coaches. Along with our one page app for student-athletes, we are going to be launching another tool to help you find the best schools for you. Just answer a few questions and we’ll help you make the right college decision.

#3 – Recruiting questionnaires – Show your interest in programs that you have started a conversation with. For example, maybe you send out an email to a few schools over the break and you see through email tracking that a coach has clicked on your profile or opened your message. I recommend you fill out a recruiting questionnaire on their website as soon as possible. This will show to the coach you are serious about them and their school. Another way to show interest is to follow the coaches and schools on social media. Don’t just follow, but interact with them.

#4 – Highlight Video – Add your first video to your profile or update or add a second video with recent clips. Being from Atlantic Canada, most coaches are not going to see you, so make it easy for them and keep your videos up to date.

That’s it!

I just wanted to create this episode for you to give you a little bit of a framework, and something to follow this winter break. I am not saying you should spend countless hours over the break doing this stuff, but a bit of time here and there is not a bad idea especially when you have your big goals in mind.

Have a great holiday, Merry Christmas and we will see you in 2019!
